Music: A Divine Source of Power

(Note: This article was originally written by Robert for Kryon Magazine, 1998, published by Geoff Hoppe)

If we start looking at the belief systems of ancient civilisations we see that most if not all of them had one common idea - that life as we know it started with sound. The Vedas read “In the beginning was Brahman, with whom was the Word (the vibration), and the Word was Brahman”. The Bible states the same thing almost word for word. If we have our origin as sound then we must ultimately be influenced by the use of sound.

Many scientists state that the influence of music on the body is limited to the emotional level. When listening to certain pieces the brain reacts by releasing endorphins into the blood stream and through this, influencing the person’s health to some degree. This is not the whole story. Structured sound can also work on a much more profound level.

Significant study has been done on the effects of sound on plants. It has been found that rock or dissonant music can stunt their growth or in many cases even kill them, while the playing of meditative, devotional works will make them more productive and much more resistant to disease. This is significant research because it proves that we are not only affected on a conscious, emotional level of the mind.

When I was creating my first relaxing - healing album, Cristal Silence I - The Silence Within, there were many plants in my studio, lined up on a ledge next to the window. After less than two weeks of composing, they were all growing towards the speakers instead of facing the light from outdoors.

One of the most obvious examples of music influencing us is how a slow rhythm with sustained notes can quickly lower both the heartbeat and the blood pressure. This is because everything in the world naturally tends to move towards harmony.

I had a cousin who collected antiques and owned a farm with a large Victorian mansion. The yard was filled with old cars from the twenties and thirties. One room in the house had collectible toys, another had beautiful chinaware, but the room that fascinated me the most was full of pendulum clocks, both large and small. I remember as a young teenager, stepping into that room for the first time, and realising that all the timepieces were ticking in unison. The immediate thought that entered my mind was “Wow, my cousin must be a genius! How did he ever start up all those clocks at the same time and then, keep them all synchronised?”

It was only much later, during my studies on the magical power of sound, that I read about a basic law of physics that explained the phenomenon. In the year 1665 a Dutch scientist, Christian Hugeness, discovered the principle where smaller objects in motion will end up moving in harmony with the largest objects. This law does not only work on the physical level of motion but also on higher planes of vibration.

Both Madame Blavetski and Rudolf Steiner hold that uplifting music comes from a spiritual source and that its vibrations have an uplifting effect that puts us in touch with our true essence. Gurdjieff, as the ancient Greeks Aristotle and Plato did, related music to the cosmos, thus connecting us with Universal order and Universal consciousness. In all great civilisations music was of ultimate importance, deriving its energy from above for the working of change below. The role of Scared Music was to release upon earth a form of energy that could keep civilisation in harmony with the heavens.

Schaupenhauer, in The World as will and Idea, wrote, “Art is a kind of knowledge that leads more directly to the Divine “. The great painters, sculptors, architects and composers of seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth century Europe realised that their mission was to bring people closer to God. Throughout the history of most great civilisations we find evidence of works of beauty being used as a road pointing towards Heaven. Confucius believed that when art died, so would civilisation. Music is unique among the arts though, since it is the only one that doesn’t need the use of visual perception to be either created or experienced. It works as a direct link to the divine higher self.

When working with Kryon, Lee Carroll plays my latest album, The Silent Path, to assist him in connecting with this Universal energy. The vibrational level of this music brings the mind to that place where one feels a great reverence for things sacred, where one experiences a tremendous sense of love and peace. At this level one taps into infinite wisdom and guidance.

Music can help the mind and body get to that ideal state for healing to happen. It may occur on different levels - be it mental, spiritual, emotional or even physical. It is important though to choose music that was written with this intent.

The product of divine creativity has so much to do with intent. In every form of art it takes study and practice to develop skill as an artist, but anyone can learn to write the notes or mix the colours. It’s not the notes that count - it’s what is behind them that really matters.

The creative musician must be able to go to the level of consciousness that she or he wants the listener to experience. The essence of this spiritual world is then transformed into notes, melodies, harmonies and rhythm on the physical plane. This work of art then becomes a vehicle for change - a path that can lead the listener into greater, more expansive levels of the self.

Throughout the years that I have been writing this type of music, we have received many testimonials attesting to the fact that while listening to either the Cristal Silence trilogy or The Silent Path, people have seen significant changes take place on many levels of their lives.

While on a concert tour in western Canada promoting the release of The Silent Path, I observed many heart-warming transformations. During a store presentation in Edmonton, Canada, a lady who was clinically deaf bought five of my cassettes after claiming that she had just heard a whole piece of music for the first time in her life. In Vancouver one lady, who had cut the nerve in her ring finger many years earlier, said that something strange happened during my performance. The feeling that had been missing in that finger since the accident had suddenly started coming back.

A very moving experience for me was when a man thanked me for having written Cristal Silence I, His father listened to this music constantly for the last month of his life on this earth plane and it helped him in making his transition.

This positive feedback from listeners helps me to know that I am on my true path. My goal in writing this music is to help people get to a level of consciousness where they will know that they are special and that they too can manifest what they want and change their lives for the better.

By using the appropriate music as a catalyst and taking some time each day to get in touch with our infinite selves, we soon realise that our lives are filled with purpose, that everything is moving towards harmony, and that we’ve now found true inner peace. It is when we reach this profound level of consciousness and connect with infinity that we can begin creating miracles in our lives.

Mental Clarity: Harmonics of the Universe

In conjunction with a medical research team who specialise in retraining the brain, we have developed and fine tuned the sound that will help you empty your mind as you enter a deep state of relaxation.

The Mental Clarity sound is based on the harmonic series, part of the fundamental building blocks of the Universe. When you play a note on the piano, you not only hears that note, but you also hear, at a much softer level, many higher pitched sounds. These vibrations are mathematically related to the played note (the fundamental) and are called the harmonics. The individual intensity of each of these many higher vibrations is what determines if a musical instrument sounds like a flute, an oboe or a trumpet.

Musicians playing the long straight trumpets that were used in the courts of Europe relied entirely on the natural harmonics of the instrument. There were no valves or buttons. The lowest note that could be played was the fundamental and it’s pitch was determined by the length of the horn. When the player tightened his lips, the next note he produced was the same note an octave or 8 notes higher. The next note was the fifth above that…then the octave, the third, the fifth, etc. (Example: Do, Do, Sol, Do, Mi, Sol, etc.) As the player went higher, more notes were available in each consecutive octave.

There was a book published by the Rosicrucians on the Sacredness of the Harmonic Series. The fundamental note represents the Universal or God Force. When you have the fundamental and it’s first harmonic or octave you have duality and all that it represents. With the first three notes you create the Trinity aspect - interesting because the Trinity is stability. The shape of the pyramid is based on the Trinity energy and is considered to be the most stable structure on Earth.

Mental Clarity is based on the first three notes in this series. It uses the notes of the open fifth (Do - Sol) and does not sound like a major or minor chord since the Mi or third of it’s scale is missing.

Gregorian Chant, at the root of Western Classical music, was always sung in unison (everyone singing the same notes at the same time). At one point, the monks began experimenting with open fifths by having some of the voices simultaneously sing the same melody a fifth away. The vibrations were so powerful that apparently the Church banned the use of this new form of singing. It was said that with this formula they were able to create magic on their own, without relying on a priest to connect with God, with the Universe.

A friend of mine in England was doing experiments with the open fifth sound in her recording studio. Abnormal things started to happen. Electronic equipment that had been broken suddenly started working. Other instruments started behaving in unexplainable ways.

We have had many positive testimonials from people who practise meditating with Mental Clarity. The thing that is mentioned most often is that after using the sound everyday for about a month, they feel that they are in touch with the Universe and it is as if they are hearing the answers before asking the questions.

I truly believe that this sound can help the listener get to that level of consciousness where they can create real magic in their lives.

For optimal use of this CD, our suggestion is to meditate using track #1 the first week, track #2 the second, and then continue with track #3. The third cut alternates between short melodic pieces that help relax the body and the Mental Clarity sound that helps clear the mind. As one listens, one becomes progressively more relaxed, accompanied by less and less mental chatter.

Often as I work, I will play Mental Clarity very softly in the background. The energy seems to change and I become more focused.
